Overview

ART - HeliFlight-RART has combined our FLIGHTLAB Flight Dynamics Models and our PilotStation run-time infrastructure with COTS simulator systems and we have used our extensive experience in integration and testing of simulator systems to produce HeliFlight-R, a turnkey, reconfigurable simulator for flight dynamics engineering and training applications. Combining the use of the FLIGHTLAB Development System and the HeliFlight-R reconfigurable simulator, allows tight coupling of interactive modeling and analysis with pilot-in-the-loop real time simulation. The HeliFlight-R simulator can also support training applications and can be certified to FAA standards for a Level 5 Flight Training Device. HeliFlight-R focuses on providing tight coupling of all simulator cueing systems with ART’s high fidelity FLIGHTLAB Flight Dynamics Models to provide unsurpassed flight dynamics fidelity in a piloted simulation. A 12 ft. Carbon Fiber dome with three LCOS projectors provides a 210 degree by 65 degree field of view with High Definition video resolution. Four-axis control loaders with linkages to pilot and copilot controls provide programmable force feel and the ability to backdrive the controls for trim and autopilot functionality. Side arm and throttle controls augment the helicopter controls to allow fixed-wing simulation. Interchangeable FLIGHTLAB flight dynamics models provide the highest fidelity real-time flight dynamics modeling available. The instrument panel uses four LCD touchscreen displays to provide reconfigurable instrument displays and switches. Interchangeable crew stations provide either a single seat cockpit or a dual seat, side-by-side cockpit. An on-board Instructor/Operator Station allows the Instructor/Operator to coordinate closely with the pilots while a ground-based Operator/Instructor station allows monitoring and control of the simulator session from outside the simulator. An optional motion platform provides six degree of freedom motion cues. HeliFlight-R may be interfaced to real avionics equipment for combined pilot-in-the-loop/hardware-in-the-loop evaluation. HeliFlight-R may be readily disassembled and shipped to support remote deployment.
